Hazardous Area Electrical

Where flammable gases, vapours or dusts are present, electrical equipment must be selected, installed and maintained to prevent ignition. Our teams are trained and experienced in Ex electrical work to AS/NZS 60079 across all protection concepts and zone classifications.

Overview

Hazardous area electrical work is a specialist discipline governed by the AS/NZS 60079 series of standards. It requires personnel who understand area classification, protection concepts, equipment certification, installation requirements and the specific inspection regime that ensures that the protection remains effective over the life of the installation. General electricians cannot do this work safely.

Reprise Electrical's hazardous area teams hold CompEx or equivalent qualifications for working in classified areas. We perform initial installations, verify that equipment selection is appropriate for the zone and gas group, install to the specific requirements of each protection concept, and complete the Ex inspection and compliance documentation that the Australian standard requires.

For existing facilities with established Ex inspection programs, we provide periodic inspection services under AS/NZS 60079-17 — including close, detailed and sample inspection levels — and maintain the Ex equipment register that documents the condition of every piece of Ex equipment on site.
